harry potter and the sorcerer’s stone PT. 1

so, everyone has seen the harry potter movies, right? well at least I would hope so…. well, the book is completely different they left so much out of the movie that was in the book, or they switched it around a lot but still a great read.

The story start begins with the Dursleys (yes, we all know of them) it begins with Mr. Dursley leaving for work, but he finds something very strange about his day so far, there he sees a random cat sitting on the side of the road it looked so still that he thought it was a statue. well fast forward to Mr. Dursleys day at work he finds it oddly strange yet again how he keeps seeing all of these oddly dressed people out on the streets one of them he even heard call this a “muggle world” he then comes to find out that there has been a victory in the wizard world but there was a child who lost his parents in the process.

fast forward to that night and here comes our one and only headmaster professor Dumbledore, as he comes walking down pivot drive to get to the Dursleys house. he is met by Hogwarts transfiguration teacher professor McGonagall. She seems very skeptical about leaving the boy with the Dursleys she even tells Dumbledore herself that she has been watching them all day they are horrid people, but Dumbledore knows that even though the Dursleys are his only family right now he will return to Hogwarts one day. eventually the groundskeeper shows up with the boy, and they say their farewells for now as Dumbledore lays him down in the welcome mat with a note with his name…… Harry Potter.

11 years have gone by since the night he was left at the Dursleys front door and harry is living in a broom closet under the stairs. today is Dudley’s birthday and usually harry is sent to sit with the old lady who lives down the street while Mr. and Mrs. Dursley take Dudley and one of his friends out for his birthday., but this year no one was able to take harry so the Dursleys had no choice but to take him with them so they decided to go to the zoo.

The next morning Mr. Dursley tells harry to go fetch the post but as harry is doing so he finds he had got a letter. before he even had the chance to open it and read it his cousin Dudley snatches it from his hand and hands it to his father telling him that harry got a letter. well Mr. Dursley lets out a laugh as he asks who would be writing harry? until he saw the wax post on the letter then him and Mrs. Dursley fell silent, looking at each other with a hint of fear. every day they would keep sending more and more letters until finally Mr. Dursley said its time to move somewhere where they won’t be able to find them, but little did he know that albus Dumbledore is one of the world’s greatest wizards.

finally, Hagrid shows up and personally hands harry his letter because what’s scarier than a giant bearded man showing up in the middle of the night in a rainstorm. I guess you can say it’s a good thing that Hagrid showed up because then the truth would have never come out. Now harry finally knows what happened to his parents, He knows that his life will never be the same because now he’s a wizard and a very powerful one according to Hagrid. after Hagrid tells harry all of this information, he ends up taking him to Diagon alley so he can get all of his supplies that he needs for first term. his books, his school robes, and even his first wand but first they have to make one stop at Gringotts wizarding bank.

as harry was getting fitted for his school robes he met a very particular boy with blond hair and a pale face, who was also getting fitted for Hogwarts robes. something about the boy didn’t sit right with harry, maybe it was the way he spoke about other wizards and witches. when harry was done getting fitted for his robes and had all of his other school supplies that he needed. Hagrid took him back to the Dursleys but first he gave him a ticket for September 1st at king’s station on platform 9 & 3/4.

its September the first and harry is at kings’ station but he can’t seem to find platform 9 3/4 except he overhears a women telling her sons that it’s this way and to hurry up or they will be late so harry follows behind until he sees them stop between platforms 9 and 10. but what surprises him the most is that he just watched them run right through the wall of platform 9. so shyly harry walks up and asks the woman how they did that. so, she walked them through it because it was also her son Rons first year as well.

once they got through and harry saw the red and black train with the words “HOGWARTS EXPRESS” written on it he was at a loss of words. He went to go find an empty spot to sit on the train a few moments later the red headed boy from earlier comes walking by and he asks if he can join him because everywhere else is full. they sit and they chat for a while after the red headed boy introduced himself as Ron Weasley. moments go by and two other students walk by a girl and another boy the young girl introduced herself as Hermione granger and the boy was Neville Longbottom. it seems they were on the search for something important, but it was a good thing Hermione came by because she also warned harry and Ron that they may want to change into their school robes because they will be arriving shortly.

so that is the first part I am so excited to read the second half and tell you all about it. so far, I give the book a 10/10 and so far, I prefer the book over the movie. so please stay tuned because part two will be coming soon.
